Black Friday, done backwards

Every year I'm told to boycott Black Friday. I don't, because cheaper prices aren't the problem; the frenzy is. So we do it backwards. You vote for the products you need or want to give this Christmas, I take those votes to the brands and get the best price I can, and then, over two weeks in November, each category gets its two days. No impulse-buy pressure, no fake countdowns, just the best things in the world made a bit more affordable for the people who'll use them for decades.
Voting closes Sunday 15 November.

FAQs About Our Brands on Sale

Which discounted brands offer truly buy-it-for-life quality?

The best buy-it-for-life brands on sale feature tough materials, generous guarantees, and repairable designs. Cookware in stainless steel, cast iron, or copper often comes with 10-year-plus warranties. Many discounted items are from brands trusted by professional kitchens or backed by lifetime guarantees. That means excellent value over time - especially if bits can be repaired or replaced. Always check the product description for warranty details or material specs. Still unsure? See how we choose products in how we research and select durable products.

How do I care for high-end cookware like cast iron or copper?

To keep high-end cookware in top nick, always hand wash - no dishwashers, please. For cast iron, dry straight after cleaning and apply a thin layer of oil to maintain seasoning. Copper benefits from regular polishing with a copper cleaner to minimise tarnish. Avoid abrasive scourers and harsh detergents on either. They do ask for a touch more care than typical pans, but they’ll reward you with decades of faithful service. Need more tips? Here’s our guide on how to season your new cast iron skillet.

Which sale items are compatible with induction hobs?

Many sale items made from stainless steel or cast iron are induction hob compatible. If a magnet sticks to the base, you're good to go. Compatibility is always listed in the product specs, so no guesswork needed. Some copper pans work too, provided they’ve got a magnetic bottom. Choosing the right pans now means you won’t be caught short if your hob goes all high-tech later. Browse top picks in our durable cookware collection.

What should I know about the safety of ceramic and non-stick cookware?

The most trustworthy ceramic and non-stick cookware is made without harmful coatings like PFAS. Our sale items use non-toxic, certified-safe materials, all thoroughly tested for peace of mind. Ceramic coatings are generally safe - ours are always free from nasties like lead or cadmium. Higher-end non-sticks also resist scratches better, but stick to wooden or silicone utensils and keep the hob at a sensible heat. It’s the sort of care that helps your pans go the distance.

How can I tell if a product on sale is ethically made?

To know if a product on sale is ethically made, check for fair labour practices and sustainable sourcing. Details like FSC-certified wood or recycled metals are a solid sign, and we always highlight such materials in the product description. Some brands carry third-party certifications too. Most of our long-lasting picks come from companies that value people and planet as much as their bottom line.

Is it difficult to maintain stainless steel or enamel cookware?

Stainless steel and enamel cookware are easier to maintain than you might think. Stainless may get water spots, but a bit of bicarb and elbow grease sorts that. Enamel dislikes high dry heats, but cleans well with gentle scrubbing - just no metal scourers, thank you kindly. Both materials shrug off rust and stains better than most, and with basic care will last decades. Many come with 10-year warranties or longer. What cookware do professional chefs actually recommend?

Professional chefs tend to recommend cookware that holds up under heavy use - think stainless steel, cast iron, and carbon steel. These materials offer reliable heat control and real staying power. While copper is prized for precision, it does need extra TLC. The best pro-approved pans are solidly built with stay-put handles, often repairable, and backed by solid guarantees.
